Which Cognos course should I take?

We offer courses for all levels of experience. For a strong introduction and foundation in Cognos, we recommend the Professional Report Authoring, Beginning  class followed by Professional Report Authoring, Advanced. Which Tableau course should I take?

We provide a full Tableau curriculum with classes to match every skill level. For syllabus information and guidance to help select the best class for your needs, refer to Choosing a Tableau Class.

What experience or training do your instructors have?

All of our instructors are hands-on  BI consultants, or doers, when they are not teaching. Each has come from the industry and approaches coursework with an understanding of the tangible end-goals a business must address. Equally, all Senturus instructors have more than 10 years of experience. Several are former Cognos or Tableau employees.

We have conducted more than 500 training sessions with some of the largest international corporations, as well as some of the most ambitious young companies here in our Silicon Valley backyard. Do you provide consulting services?

Yes. Business intelligence consulting is our business. Senturus offers training to complement our core offering and ensure our customers get maximum value from their engagements. Our instructors are practicing consultants with real-world application management experience.

How do I register for training?

Are there prerequisites for classes?

For many courses, we offer beginning, intermediate, advanced and expert classes with prerequisites noted in respective class descriptions. All course-work assumes students are familiar with PC skills, including use of the web and Windows skills such as multi-select, use of both mouse buttons and multi-tasking.

How long are classes/courses?

We appreciate that time is money and our experience has shown us that extended training is not necessarily better than focused training. Some of our training classes are shorter than other providers’ because we have extracted the fluff. We quickly get to the heart of what you need to know and leave time for you to ask questions. Because we have been in your shoes, we can almost always address questions even beyond the content being discussed in the class.

Will I need special software to take an online course?

All online courses are hosted using GoToMeeting. You will need to allow the GoToMeeting client to install on your PC and then test your computer’s ability to use GoToMeeting, you can test GoToMeeting here.

Cognos Authoring courses are hosted on our cloud training server, so you will only need go to our website to complete the hands-on portion of these courses. Tableau courses and Cognos Modeling and Administration courses are hosted on a remote desktop; we will provide instructions for setting up and testing your connection prior to the start of the class. There is no special software download required in either case.

When is private training appropriate?

If you have five or more students, private group training can be more cost effective than public training, regardless of the software tool, student role or experience level. Private group training can be delivered onsite, online or both, depending on your situation. If desired, we can also work with your company’s data to make examples more tangible. Do classes get cancelled for lack of attendance?

We conduct the vast majority of our courses even if just one person registers. 

When are public classes held?

Most courses start at 7:00 a.m. and end by 3:00 p.m. U.S. Pacific Time  (10 a.m. – 3 p.m. U.S. Eastern Time) or are held 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. U.S. Pacific Time. See the course description for the time of the class. Private group training is scheduled at the client’s convenience. This includes off-hours such as evenings or weekends to accommodate global attendees and those that can not take time away from the office.

Do you offer training outside of the U.S.?

Yes, courses can be made available to anyone, regardless of location. While most of our live, public training classes are scheduled for U.S. time zones, we can schedule courses for Asian and European time zones and Saturday courses. Additionally, we will arrange private group training to suit your specific schedule and location. Contact us online for more information.

Is there a registration cut-off date?

We limit attendance to 12 students, so classes fill up quickly. To guarantee your seat in a class and receive course material in time, we encourage registration at least one week prior to the scheduled date.

How do I know my registration has been received?

You will receive an email confirming your registration shortly after filling out the online form. A separate email will also be sent with course logistics within one business day of initial registration.

How do I pay for the class?

You can pay online with any major credit card, purchase order or invoice. For invoice requests or purchase order payments, select “P.O. or Invoice” during the checkout process. An email will be sent indicating: “registration is pending” with instructions for submitting a purchase order or requesting an invoice from

Do you offer volume discounts?

What is your cancellation policy?

We provide a full refund for classes cancelled at least 10 business days prior to the scheduled class start date. Cancellation notices submitted at least three days prior to the scheduled class start date will receive a 50% refund. No refunds will be given for cancellations received less than three business days notice ahead of the scheduled class start date.
