Tableau Tip: Getting Rid of the “Abc” from the Measure Value Display

Chuck Hooper, former head of Tableau’s consulting organization and Senturus lead Tableau trainer, shares a quick and easy solve for how to get rid of the “Abc” when you don’t want to display a measure.

Scenario:

You want a dashboard where one of the views is a descriptive list, with no measure showing. Tableau, by default, shows “Abc” where a measure value would show.

  • Create a calculated field – call it “Blank’ for example.
  • The value of the formula is ‘ ‘ (that is a quote, space, quote).

  • Place the calculated field on the “Text” button in the Marks card.
